Baumstämme spalten Froe
Our hand-forged Froe with a straight handle is an efficient tool for cleaving various types of wood by splitting it along the grain. You can use it with a wooden mallet to split timber, make wooden shingles and planks, or for kindling. The exceptionally sharp blade is made from high-quality hardened 52100 steel, known for its imposing durability and capacity to hold a keen edge. As the blade is not swung, the froe is safer and more accurate for cleaving wood than hatchets or splitting mauls.
The ash tree handle only adds to the tool’s reliability and robustness. Our artisans manually adjust it to the steel part, ensuring the whole construction is sturdy and functional. The handle is additionally treated with bitumen and linseed oil to strengthen the wood throughout.
The ergonomic handle also features leather wrapping for a comfortable and secure grip. The handmade protective case from 100-% leather ensures the blade retains its keen edge for a long time of use. It not only looks aesthetic and boosts the froe’s authenticity but is an indispensable accessory for secure storage and transportation. A little tip for efficient tool use: hammer one edge of the blade into the end of a piece of wood in the direction of the grain. Afterward, twist the blade in the wood by rotating the haft.
